I was in an Italian restaurant with my boyfriend recently and, proud of his knowledge of Italian coffee, he asked for a un caffé carota. The waiter looked confused and amused so I rather hurridly explained that he wanted a un caffé corretto, a 'corrected' coffee which is an espresso with grappa, rather than a carrot coffee!

Hi, Sian, I'm Italian and work in Brussels. The problem is that carota in italian means carrot and so if you ask for a caffé carota, one can understand a coffee with a carrot, or something like that ... that is really strange for us ...!
