Back to life

When I was at school (in the 70s) my friend and I were on a school trip and we got separated from our group. We somehow ended up at a railway station with two drunk old ±èé±èé²õ, grandpas, sat on a bench. We tried our best French on them to ask where the town was. Unfortunately we couldn't agree whether you say the two 'll's at the end of ville or not. I swear we nearly gave the two nice old guys a heart attack, we kept shouting it in our desperation and it was a question that they just couldn't answer. Instead of où est la ville ?, where is the town?, we were screaming où est la vie ?, where is life? Oops. We eventually found our group and got a good telling off for being late.

That's lovely. I love it that you were shouting in desperation.

Ha, they probably had a great existential chat afterwards.
