Good hunter

My favourite French tongue twister is: Un chasseur sachant chasser sait chasser sans son chien de chasse. Which means: A hunter who knows how to hunt knows how to hunt without his hunting dog.

I was told in school:

Un bon chasseur sachant chasser, doit savoir chasser sans son chien.
A good hunter who knows how to hunt, must know how to hunt without his dog!

Un chasseur sachant chasser sans son chien fit sécher ses chaussettes sur une souche sèche.
A hunter who could hunt without his dog dried his socks on a dry tree stump.

I was taught one slightly different, and slightly easier perhaps, some 40 years ago by my French exchange family: Un bon chasseur doit savoir chasser sans son chien. A good hunter must know how to hunt without his dog. And for good measure they would add et sans son chat.

I know this version: Un chasseur sachant chasser sans son chien est un bon chasseur. A hunter who can hunt without his dog is a good hunter.
