Idioms can be so weird, sometimes

Ça ne casse pas trois pattes à un canard is an expression I came across recently. Literally, it means "That doesn't break three paws to a duck". How on earth has it come to be the equivalent of "it's nothing to write home about"?

I suspect Malcolm because what could be more amazing than three paws on a duck? It's a nice one though and have not heard it before.

On ne fait pas d'omelettes sans casser des Âœufs. You cannot make omelettes without breaking the eggs.
