Personalised luggage

A business acquaintance of mine, most of whose career had confined him to the Indian sub-continent, suddenly found himself with a few trips to Europe including Spain. On first arriving in the country, in Madrid, he was rather put out when the person meeting him at the airport seemed to be highly amused at his personalised luggage. He pointed out the name on the side of my friend's briefcase to several airport workers whom he appeared to know, who also roared with laughter at the sight. My friend's name: Christopher Oliver Jones, abbreviated quite naturally to C O JONES. Cojones is the standard term for that part of the male anatomy!

My friend Paul Jones worked for Ford in Mexico years ago. On day I met him wearing a windbreaker with the name 'Paco' on the upper left. What's with the 'Paco' name, I asked. Your name is Paul ... shouldn't that say Pablo? It was my nickname there, he replied my cohorts gave it to me. I don't understand, I said. How do you pronounce 'Jones' in spanish? Of course, it comes out pa cojones.

I like the idea that the traveler needed a whole suitcase to carry his cojones ...

French is usually quite handy when you don't know a Spanish word. Trying to say something about pigs (cochon in French) I confidently spoke about cojones ...
