Miraculous conception
My Spanish teacher told me of his experience in Bolivia when he got something wrong. He owned up by saying Estoy embarazado and wondered why the room went quiet. He had said that he was pregnant!
Editor's note: To say 'I am embarrassed' use Me da vergüenza, rather than Estoy embarazada, which usually has the feminine ending -a.

I was in a chat room brushing up on the old ·¡²õ±è²¹Ã±´Ç±ô and started chatting to a Spanish guy. He said that he'd bet I was pretty and I said Ya basta, estoy embarazada. I thought I'd said I was embarrassed but I had actually just told him I was pregnant! Needless to say that was the end of that conversation ...
A girl we know made the same mistake. She'd spent the summer working with a church group in Spain, and when she was due to leave she was reluctantly persuaded to stand up in front of the congregation and say a few words. 'I am most embarazada', she said, 'and (addressing the pastor) it's your fault!'
