Finished

One day me and some of my Italian friends went to an Italian restaurant in Rome. At the end of the meal wanting to try out some of my Italian skills, I streched, and said io sono finita. At that all my friends started laughing, and they later revealed to me that I had gotten my verbs mixed up, and what I had said was literally 'I'm finished' (in the life/death sense)! They then told me that instead, I should have said io ho finito.

It's the same in French - once during a French class a few years ago, one of my friends raised her hand and said, "je suis finit !" meaning that she had finished her exercises. We had a boy who was French in the class, learning more complex grammar, and he burst out laughing and told her that that is what people in movies say before they shoot themselves.

One time in Italy we went to eat at someone's house. The family knew me but they didn't know my wife. When my wife was done eating she said Io sono finta, I'm fake. The people looked at her with surprise. She had forgotten the 'i' in finito. and she should have said ho not sono. I quickly corrected by telling them my wife was finished.
