Feeling stuffed

Whilst living in Italy, I told my host over Sunday lunch Sono stufo, thinking it meant 'I am full up', only to find out later it is an impolite way of saying 'I'm fed up'! It was the only time during the meal that the rest of the family averted their gaze from the football on TV!

Editor's note: To say you are full up after eating, use Sono sazio/a.

Sono piena (I'm pregnant) is slang!

Sono incinta, I'm pregnant, sono piena (come un uovo), I'm full up (like an egg).

I wouldn't say sono stufo is impolite - merely informal.

But sono piena, I am full, can be misunderstood as 'I am pregnant'.

To say you are full up after eating sono pieno (come un uovo), I am full (like an egg), is also commonly used.
