Any old iron

Needing some milk while staying self-catering in a beautiful apartment near Lago Maggiore, I decided to ask at a local bar if they sold any milk. Not only confusing the gender of the Italian word for milk, il latte, which is masculine, I also managed to swap the words for selling and buying, by saying: Comprate delle latte?Taking the waiter's confused look for deafness, I asked again more slowly and loudly, until he answered politely: No, grazie! Little did I realise that I had inadvertently become a seller of scrap metal, as I had been asking him if he would be interested in buying any tins! What of course I should have said was: Vendete latte?

this is similar to the english word "right" that means either "left/right"(sinistra/destra) or "ok, you're right" (ok, hai ragione tu) and if you add an "s" it becomes "rights" that means "diritti"
