Try it or dry it
I was on holiday with my family in Frejus, enjoying an evening stroll and doing 'window' shopping at the market stalls along the sea-front and in the little shops that sell gifts etc. A swimming costume caught my eye and feeling rather confident I marched into the shop and up to the desk, held up the garment and said: Bonsoir monsieur, puis je l'essuyer? He laughed enough to turn me scarlet before gently and politely explaining that I had asked to dry it when I should have asked puis je l'essayer, can I try it. I was extremely embarrassed!

What I find especially funny is that the English words for such actions are similar as well (though not in the same way).
