So what's your hobby?

On a skiing holiday in France with my French friend we got to know two attractive French ladies and we arranged a dinner together that evening. The problem was they spoke only French, so I had to impress my lady friends with my rusty O-level French. In French I grandiosely declared what I thought meant 'I loved skiing': J'aime chier. Which caused them all to laugh a lot - especially our lady friends!I found out that what I said meant something like 'I love going to the toilet for a No. 2'! Very embarrassing! Needless to saywe didn't hit off with our lady friends. At least the wine was good. P.S. to the editor: how do you say 'I love skiing' (and pronounce it correctly)?

Editor's note: To impress the ladies you should have said: J'aime faire du ski, pronouncing the k in ski. It's a loan word from the Norwegian language where it's pronounced like 'she' - which sounds very much like a completely different word in French ...

Think of the word Ska (remember the band The Specials), that's the way to pronounce the SK is ski. The ending is pronounced ee as in knee.

Or even J'aime skier, but be sure to pronounce that k (skee-ay)!
