Market Day
During my French GCSE oral examination 11 years ago, I was given an information sheet and asked to speak about my visit to the market. Desperate to make a good impression, and making it up on the spot, the phrase pour mon frère, j'achète une jupe rouge, 'for my brother I buy a red skirt', popped into my head. After my teacher roared with laughter, I corrected the mistake, making it clear that my brother wasn't actually a skirt-wearing tranvestite.

I laughed so hard after reading this I received several strange looks from the people around me.
During a similar exam the sweet young freshman said, Je suis nue, nude, instead of Je suis née, born, to which the gentleman professor commented aside, "If only . . . ."
