Use DVDs

I don't like language courses on CD because most of the dialogues are simply not interesting. So I decided to find more enjoyable means of language learning. I had the idea to use my passion for films. I bought various films on DVD that I could watch in German and English alike. With DVDs you can also use the subtitle function. I'd recommend comedies because they put you in a positive frame of mind and you enjoy your language studies even more.

It really helps if you get exposed to the language you're learning, eg. watching an interesting movie. No translations, no subtitles. Just dive into that language.

I find that changing the language settings and/or subtitle settings on my English speaking DVD's is a great way to learn pronunciation and new vocabulary, especially if you have seen the DVD previously in English.
