Once in Rome someone asked my friend: Siete forestieri? My friend replied: We're British, not from the forest. I guess that confirmed the question - we were "foreigners" ...

Forestiero: from old French and Latin. Italian: fuori, meaning outside or abroad

Fresco/fresh (Italian/English)
It was an unusually hot August morning in London and my husband suggested buying some drinks. We got in an Indian shop and after choosing two bottles of something, my husband asked if they were fresh (he meant "cool"). The shopkeeper looked crossed and touchily replied "Everything is fresh here!"
