Blackpool & District League U14s Hogan Cup Final, Bloomfield RoadAfter finishing the League campaign unbeaten and very recently drawn with this seasons runners up Squires Gate this was always going to be a tight game. A couple of changes was made to the usual line up however the lads was up for it and away they went, on a sun baked Bloomfield Rd with temperatures as high as 80 degrees on the pitch. Tense couple of minutes from both sides brought mistakes allowing both forwards to go close, Jordan W was as lively as ever starting like a house on fire when he outstripped his marker on several occasions by putting over some teasing crosses with the Gate rearguard all over the place. Ben D opened the scoring when a route one pass brought mix up in the Gate defence with both the centre half and keeper making a hash of things allowing Ben D to squirm away with the ball to side foot into a empty net. (0-1) This was a setback for Gate when almost immediately they rallied but for the quick thinking John W who tidied up nicely taking it away from the Gate striker when he was about to pull the trigger. Again John caused chaos down the right and after another mix up and some fine individual play from Joe H who was denied by the defenders the ball spun nicely to Ben D who drop a shoulder to evade the defender to smash home his and Foxhall's second. (0-2) Plenty of action around the park with action man Mark S in the thick of things and was at the forefront of the bulk of Foxhall's possession. Captain Marvel Ollie C again was instrumental in another fine raid for Foxhall but Joe H squandered the chance. HT 0-2 Time for the lads to intake fluids on this scorcher of a day but it was Squires that looked to have started the brighter when forcing Wheeler into a couple of tricky handling situations ,but the keeper coped admirably with both attempts. Joe H was catching the eye with some breathtaking runs which Gate couldn鈥檛 handle and twice was denied by some excellent defending when a goal was beckoning for the lively forward. There was a lot of tired legs out there and substitutions seemed inevitable with fresh legs the key, and that it was with James D instrumental in finding Shaw who in turn found Joe H when he waltzed round his marker and then somehow lobbed the keeper to put the game to bed. (0-3) Summary:Excellent win on a very hot day credit to the lads for their efforts it must have been difficult. Fantastic achievement in completing the double. Well Done Everyone. May I take this opportunity firstly in thanking Ben D for his tremendous achievement in scoring 50+ goals this season and secondly wishing him every success in his two year apprenticeship at Burnley FC.
