Turn an ordinary room into a modern and organised study. With storage and shelving around the fireplace and funky acrylic cupboards for the walls, this is the perfect place to work.

Fireplace
Cover the fireplace wall with a new flat fronted surround. Cut 18mm fire retardant MDF to size. Cut holes into the shape and back with acrylic sheets. Place lights behind these to make a funky lighting feature. Paint the unit blue. |

Cube shelving
Cut 18mm MDF to size. Use a circular saw to cut lines inside the cupboard to house the acrylic sliding doors. Cut the doors from 3mm acrylic sheeting, and fit before the cupboards are fully assembled. |

|
Floating shelves
Attach 2x2 timber batons to the walls in the alcoves either side of the fireplace. Fit 18mm MDF shelves onto these batons and paint to match the room. These shelves appear to have no supports because all the support is inside the shelf. |
|
|
|
Stripy theme
Give the room added interest by incorporating stripes into the design. Stripy cushions will instantly transform the furniture. Bring the theme onto your walls with your own stripy artwork. Simple paint a canvas with the colours of the room. |
