I was evacuated to a small village called Crosshands in Llanelly, South Wales in 1944 at the age of ten and my billeter's names were Mr and Mrs Rowe, they had a son called Dewi who had a girl friend called Mona.
My name is Patricia and my sister, who was with me is four years older and her name is Irene.
We only stayed a few weeks because I was very unhappy, in fact I ran away, with my sister, back to London.
While in Crosshands we went to the village school.
I remember everyone in the village was called either Evans or Jones. i.e. the policeman, teacher, shopkeepers etc.
Mr Rowe was a coal miner, as were all the men in the village and we could see the pit from the house.
I have often wondered what happened to the family because I believe, as an evacuee, and despite being treated very kindly, I gave them a hard time.
