My Father was captured at St Valery-en-caux on 12th June 1940 whilst serving with the Gordon Highlanders. He passed away recently and has never talked about his experiences as a prisoner of war, or his time in france, he was proud to be a Gordon Highlander and told many a story about his exploits whilst training and after his return to the uk. he would never watch a 'War Film' and would change the subject if asked about his experiences during the war.
I am slowly finding out about the heroic stance that many of our fathers/grandfathers made so that many more could reach safety although from what i am finding out now many of our fighting men were not told what was happening anyway. I know that my father was marched to poland and then back again (if i am reading this right). I would like to find out more about this 'Black Hole' in history so that i can better understand what my father endured. If anyone can help to fill in the holes from their capture on 12th june 1940 until their release
