Like thousands of other kids who went through the war,the bombing,the ugliness and grime,fear and excitment, it seems looking back like an old black and white film.

I started the war in Hull and ended it in Birkenhead. Lost all my schoolboy friends,but made many new ones.I don`t think my subsequent engineering career would have been much different.One port is very much like another, but the Wirral itself was such an interesting and varied place unlike the drab featureless landscape around Hull.I don`t mean to offend any Hullites but that`s how I felt as a boy.
