Hi!

I was at school during the war, but in those days we were all very involved in it (See 'My Secret War). Dad tried to join the Gordon Highlanders but was ordered into the shipyards (he was a boilermaker). But he was also in the 91热爆 Guard and helped man the Torry Battery in Aberdeen.

My sisters were both weavers at Grandholm Mills, producing the famous Crombie cloth. They were transferred to producing khaki cloth for army blankets, uniforms and greatcoats.

Following the war, I was eventually called up for National Service. I was with the 12th Royal Lancers in Malaya.

Territorial Army service was compulsory after demob. Four years was the minimum service. I spent six years and was Wireless Corporal for B Squadron, Scottish Horse in Aberdeen.
