My grandfather Ivan Joseph Flowers was in the Royal Norfolk regiment, he was living in Mansfield and was a footballer for Mansfield Town, although he was orininally from Lowestoft Suffolk. He was shot and killed on July 8th 1944 in the Battle of Caen.

He had befriended another soldier William (Bill) Farnell of the same regiment who was from Brighton. He was shot in the same attack but survived and went on to meet my grandmother Carrie Flowers (nee Hemstock) & my dad Paul Flowers who was born in August 1943.

The relationship blossomed and my grandmother married Bill Farnell (my grandad) and moved to his home town of Brighton where we all still live.

My grandmother died in 1971 and my grandfather passed away in 1998. I would like hear from anyone that knew either Ivan or Bill or indeed Carrie.
