Tommy was a large man with an even larger appetite. He just longed for one of his mother’s steak and kidney puddings!
As he sometimes helped out in the mess and received some reward in kind, he decided that he would do his best to make this gourmet dream come true. Sure enough some meat (could it have been Camel?) came into the mess and Tommy offered to make this delicacy for himself and his mates. Flour, fat etc was produced and deftly Tommy moulded his ‘pud’; but what to boil it in? He rummaged through his belongings and found the very thing. Later on the piece-de—resistance was displayed and served. Hungry “Tommies” gathered round drooling. One clever chap asked the inevitable; “what did he boil it in?” Without batting an eyelid Tommy replied nonchalantly “my underpants” Needless to say he enjoyed a large part of the pud just for himself, overlooking to add that they were new ones.
