This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/91热爆 Radio Nottingham on behalf of Mrs Nancy Miles with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

During the war there was no class distinction, everyone was on the same level, we were all rationed and had to make do with what we got. There were publications of how to make cakes without eggs etc.
There were black outs and we weren鈥檛 allowed any light showing at all.
I was a teenager and we didn鈥檛 take the war too seriously. The parents were the ones who had to deal with it.
I remember the railings outside our house were taken away, everything like that was used for making guns etc.
