I was 20 in 1942 and worked at De Havilands until 1945. My job was inspecting propellor parts for the Mosquito aeroplanes.
Sirens went a couple of times and we had to go into the shelters and suspend production.
People were working there from all over the world- some from ther West Indies - some from the Channel Islands. These were people who had to leave their homes in the main. Everyone had to work in those days.
I remember being in Walden when the Manchester blitz was at its height. The sky was red all over.
I remember going in the park when they were dropping incendary bombs.
My Dad was an air Raid Warden and one night he saw a stream of rats crossing the road.
In remmember going to Worsley woods in 1944 anand seeing lots of fully armed Americans obviously getting ready for D day.
