A story written up by Karen in the 91ȱ Open Centre Hull

Another luxury would be custard cream biscuits — the only biscuits available would be plain arrowroot and things of that sort. If the word got around that “Browns have got custard creams in” (Browns were another family shop at the far end of Meadowbank Road) there would be a stampede, first come first served, and they only had one tin of biscuits to get through. Also next to Browns there was a Butcher, Mr Holloway, and another grocer, Mrs Osier. These three shops are now smart private residences and it’s sometimes difficult to believe that as children we would run to the shops there.
