This story was submitted to the People's War website by Sue Sutton on behalf of Katie Brewer, the author and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

My late husband George and I were married 18 August 1940 and went for a week to Porthleven. In that week we went to Penzance for a day and during the day there was an air raid warning. All pedestrans were ushered into the police station for safety and there we all had to stay until the all clear.

The German pilot unleashed a number of bombs which fell into a field just beyond the houses in Porthleven leaving I think six craters.

A lucky day for Penzance, Porthleven and us!
