This is a little story my nan told me in the can just now, she has mentiond it before but this time I asked her more so I could put it on this site.
I've never really knewn my Grandad as he died when I was 2 years old, I only remember going in a car with him somewhere and that it was a white Escort estate.
Before the war Grandad had worked on the railways at Hawkers Aircraft and G.D. Peters as an Engineer
In 1941 Victor George Clark was called up to do service for his country, he worked where ever he was posted all over the U.K. Volconizing Airaplane tyres mainly working on Spitfires I think. My Nan Irene Clark some times went to visit him when she had the chance, one time she went to visit him in 1943 at Skunthorp or Skegness, she can't quite remember, she went up on a train with a friend and was pregnant with my aunti Pat (R.I.P) at the time, this perticuler visit was really frightening because the Germans were dropping butterfly bombs everywhere, they left there upstairs room to join the people down stairs to sit out the raid as it was to scairy to stay up stairs.
Grandad was due to be posted over seas in Europe somewhere with the mob of guys he worked with, but grandad was unfit as he had a hernia and was not aloud to go, this must have been fate as it turns out that his mob got wiped out during an attack on the air field they were working at.
Grandad had an operation for his Hernia and carryed on working ih his job till the end of the war. I will try to find out what unit it was my grandad worked for, my Nan thinks she still has his wage book somewhere, as soon as I know I wll up date it at the top.
If any one knows of Victor George Clark from Slough who died 6th Jan 1979 if you know any of the places that he worked during the war or where him and his mob was due to be posted at abroad and if anyone can shed any light on what may have happend to his unfortunate service mates please post something on my personal page, or perhaps you could tell me where to look for more info on what my Grandad did.
Thank you
Veeone
