This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by Jo Burn from 91热爆 Radio Kent and has been added to the website on behalf of June Richardson with her permission. She fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I did my bit fire watching on the roof of the shop where I worked. We did two and half-hour stints. We stood there on the top of the Cavendish store in Chatham High St and told the air raid warden if we saw anything on fire. I felt I was doing my bit but my sister worked in the fire service. One night she had a call for Reg Cross who was a fireman. A V2 had dropped in Ordinance St in Chatham and he was sent to sort it out. Turned out it was his own house and his wife and kiddie had perished. That was sad that was.
