I remember my father coming home on leave and having a party when he was home. I lived at Surtees Terrace and they took the iron railings away from the street for the war effort. I remember going to the air raid shelters close by.
My father was killed in Turkey on 20th November 1943 aged 33 years, due to an accident. He was in the medical corps. His name was John William Robson and before the war he was a horse keeper at Chilton Colliery. He was buried in Haidar Pasha Cemetery in Istanbul in Turkey.
