This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Allan Price, of 91热爆 Scotland, on behalf of Ian Johnston and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was at school when the war started. I was eight years old. All the school windows were covered with material stuck to the windows in case of explosions. We were supposed to carry our identity cards and gas masks. The 91热爆 Guard would send us home if we didn't have them. Mother gave each of us a shoe box for our rations. When they were done, that was it.

Laurencekirk was between three aerodromes - Edzell, Fordoun and Montrose. We could hear the bombers going out every night. We worked extra during the harvest without pay. The farmer gave usa box with extra rations as payments.
