91热爆

This account of her Grandfather's life was provided by Elizabeth Hewitt of Thornton le Dale, Yorkshire. It was taken by Denis Price of the 91热爆 People's War Team at the Driffield Showground.

My Grandfather's connection with the military began when as a seventeen year old, or thereabouts, he signed on with the Army for the duration of the Boer War. His job was to take remounts (horses) to S.Africa.
When this War ended so did his Military service only to begin again with the advent of the First World War. His job didn't change as again he was involved in the search for horses to serve with the Army. In this activity he was based in and around Harrogate, N. Yorks.
In the Second World War as he was living in Filey on the N. Yorkshire coast he became a Coastguard with Cliffwatch responsibilities,an essential and important role in the Country's defence at that time.
His daughter drove a civilian ambulance in and around Filey which would involve emergency visits to both Bridlington and Scarborough. The emergency centre from where she received instructions was the Methodist Chapel in Filey.
