I was at the cinema watching “The Way Ahead” starring David Niven when the V1’s and V2’s started. Suddenly the cinema screen fell in and lots of people started to panic and fuss. My mother stood up and shouted to everyone not to panic, whilst I was in tears. Cinema attendants came and made an announcement that they would do their best to get the film started again. They managed this by putting patches behind the screen so we could see the action.
However, ten minutes before the film ended the siren went again. I was so terrified at this point that my mother decided to take us all home. My sister never forgave me for not letting her see the end of the film. It was years before she did get to see the end of the film and when she did, she was disappointed because she felt it didn’t really end properly.
