We lived in St Budeaux in Plymouth during the war.
The highlight of our week was to find home made biscuits in our gas mask cases. Our mum baked fresh biscuits every Sunday, and put them in the cases.
My sister worked as a telephonist for the AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service). One day she was at St Budeaux Station on her own when the air raid siren went off. She was very frightened.
She turned around and saw the Chief Fireman's helmet hanging on the wall. She took it down and put it on, and felt quite calm for the rest of the raid.
