In 1942 there was a very old mill and a pond on the Priory road in Yardley wood.
A great discovery was made one day, when my friend and I were walking round the area near the mill. We realised we were walking on an area where Lorries dumped stuff from bombed buildings in Birmingham. Under our feet were crushed sweets all burned together.
We realised we鈥檇 made a wonderful find and put on guard duty to keep an eye on the spot.
A metal hammer separated the sweets which we re-bagged and sold at school for half a penny at the time.
