I was born on 28th April 1928, and I worked for the council as a bin man for 14 years, from 1933 to 1945. During the air raids, once the war began, we used to go underground into the shelters, which were made of clay. When it rained I disliked going into the shelters as I feared that I may drown in the water.
My dad worked in the Navy Minesweepers. His job was to clear all the mines, so it was safe for the other ships to pass by clearly, without any danger.
