This story has been added to the website by CSV volunteer Ann Toomey, on behalf of the author, Annette Maxted, who understands the site terms and conditions.

My favourite night was Friday, because that was the night that my father who was a member of the ARP was on duty. This meant that I was allowed to sleep with my mother, which meant I had a lovely cuddle.

As the war went on I began to realise that when my father went out on duty he might be in some danger, and therefore I worried about him. If ever I hear an old ARP bell it always reminds me of Friday nights.
