Eric & Marion were my parents. I, Bernard, remember arriving home one afternoon to see some huge packaging. I was three years old.
This was our new 'home' I was told, a brand new Anderson shelter. I was able to help my father excavate a huge hole in the back garden and in a couple of days our shelter was ready, suitably camouflaged with soil and turf. I remember a number of occasions when the air raid sirens sounded in the night being carried out in a blanket, with Margaret my sister too, to sleep in the shelter with my parents - or until the all clear siren sounded. The night of the huge blitz in
Swansea is a memory of mine too, although that is vague. I remember seeing enemy aerolanes flying in the night sky and the lights of explosions. Happier days followed when the shleter became a children's den in the garden.
