In December, 1944 I was with a RAF bomb disposal unit in the BLA, in Belgium. We were the first Bomb disposal unit to go over.

I was lucky in a draw and got a sheer pass back to Paris, just before Christmas, where I was lucky again to get ticket for the Glenn Miller band concert, a wonderful occasion.

Unfortunately, Glenn Miller had gone missing on the flight to the concert and ray McInlay the drummer, took over. There were only a few Brits there, the audience being mainly G.I鈥檚

Paris was cold and dark-we slept in our overcoats!
