The Air Raid had been on a little while and now there was a bit of a lull, we were scanning the skies, suddenly Jim cried out " Here Look at This!" as we rounded the corner, the whole street was lit up like daylight, a flare had been dropped from a German plane, it was the brightest I had ever seen before or since, then the sudden quiteness made the situation so eerie.
This was the only time I ever saw a Flare in an Air Raid, whether they were too costly or maybe not so rare as I thought,
no doubt someone will enlighten me.
