I was called up in 1945 aged 18 yrs. After 6 weeks initial training at Brancepeth castle in County Durham I was transferred to the Royal Engineers as a postal sorter. After 6 months I was transferred yet again- this time to the Royal Army Service Corps with whom I served until the end of my army career in 1948.
My brother who was younger than me served as a training instructor in the small arms school corps before finishing in East Africa as a Regimental Sergeant Major.
