This story was written to the 91热爆 People's War site by CSV Storygatherer Coralie on behalf of Alan Simm. The story has been added to the site with his permission and Alan fully understands the terms and conditions of the site.

Wansbeck A.R.P. post was important because it was near an R.A.F. station and 3 men had to be on duty overnight. They were my father called Bob Simm, Roy Kell and John Evans. Evans had died suddenly and had been buried that day in the cemetary adjoining the A.R.P. post.

That night there would only be 2 men on duty. My father went to collect Kell but he was too drunk to go on duty so my father went on duty alone. Around about midnight my father heard an odd sound coming from the cemetary. Then he heard a voice calling him, "Bob - Bob Simm, I'm in a grave, help me".

Then there was sound and something was coming towards the heavily curtained window of the A.R.P. post.

My father pulled back the curtains and shone a torch on a face and figure covered in wet soil.

After a few seconds my father realised it was not a ghost. It was the drunken Kell. He had tried to come on duty, took the wrong turning, ended up in the cemetary where he fell into a newly dug grave.

Kell never drank again.
