I lived on St Saviours Road in Leicester.
War broke out on my 21st birthday.
I worked in hosiery.
We were told we had to go on to war work.
Land Army, Women's Forces, Munitions or Engineering.
I went to work for engineering - Imperial Typewriter.
I worked there with my sister.
We worked there for the duration of the war.
I liked it there. There were Chinese, Latvians, Chechs, Polish, Estonians and one German. The German man married a Birmingham girl. We all got on well.
We do feel we lost years to the war.
My brother-in-law was injured in the war.
There was a German boss at Imperial Typewriter and we thought this was why we never got bombed.
