"One night we were woken at 1am in the night to do a suprise attack on the Germans. Unfortunatly,the Germans were waiting for us. Out of 49 of our tanks 45 were destroyed by the Germans. I remember the tank infront set on fire. It was pitched black and I could just see fire.I remember one of our tank drivers had one of his arms blown off. The Germans had large powerful guns and shot many bullets at a time. A shower of bullets hit our tank and split into lots of diferent pieces.A piece bounced of the tank and hit my eyebrow. Blood poured down my shirt. I saw the direction the fire was going and I ran the opposite way as fast as I could. I ran until my legs could no longer go any further. In the morning a NewZealand truck picked me up and took me to a camp. What I thought was a huge cut from the bullet turned out to be a graze! I was then taken to Hospital.
