We lived in the path of the "doodlebugs" (flying bombs) to the south of London. There was no danger from flying glass in the corridor of our flat as the front door opened onto a landing and we kept all the room doors closed.

Most bombs flew over us but if we heard one coming and the engine stopped we dived for the corridor.

One day my sister and I hit the doorway together, got stuck and began giggling! Our mother got cross so we packed it in and fell into the corridor. "Girls, it's not funny!" said Mum.
