I was born in 1944 in Birchington during a bombing raid. Andrew Davis, the conductor was born at the same time a few miles away. We lived with my grandparents and my mum was a children's nurse working right up until I was born.

I can remember my grandmother gave me powdered eggs and I didn't like that. She also gave me powdered milk which I liked out of a spoon and you could blow it back. I outgrew my shoes so they cut the toes out to make them sandals. It got to the stage where she put me in the push chair because I had no shoes to walk in!
