This story was submitted to the People's War site by Terry Mills for Three Counties Action on behalf of Stephen Ambler (son of Nellie Ambler) and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
My Mother lived in Burnley. She worked for a Fishmonger/Game Merchant and it was her responsibility to drive round the farms in Lancs and Yorks districts and collect rabbits from the farms and deliver to the Towns. She was known as the "Rabbit lass Fri' Burnley". The people of Burnley would not eat Black Rabbits - they thought they were Cats.
