This was our Street in about 1943.

In the war our mum used to send photos of my sister and I to dad to see how we were and keep his spirits up.
We lived in the 'Wellers' in Burmantofts, which were back-to-back terrace houses. Ours was in a row of 7 split in the middle by a passage and outside toilets. The first two houses in the row had a hole knocked through the cellar wall so it made one big long shelter. When the air raid siren sounded we all gathered in this shelter.

In spite of the war we had lots of fun as the street photograph of us kids show.
I have a picture in my mind of my dad coming into the street after the war ended. He dropped his kitbag and gathered up my sister and I.

I will never forget.
