1)I was an Air Raid precautions Messenger. We were called out on an air raid warning one evening. I was returning from this particular call, when I found my assistant messenger and his bike down a bomb crater. He was fine but his bike
had seen better days.
2) I was 16 leaving for the school bus on a very foggy day. We saw flares glowing around us, which appeared to be coming closer. We waited until they had stopped moving and then went to investigate. After taking a closer look we discovered that they were incendiary bombs from a German bomber. Fortunately no houses caught fire; there could have been serious injuries.
The next day, the youngsters, were going through the misty grounds picking up the live and dead incendiaries, completely oblivious to the danger.
