I was married on October 31st 1942. Alan, my husband, had just gone into the R.E.M.E. as a Craftsman. He was on leave from Aldershot. We were married in the church of St. Martin's in Camden, where I lived. There were only eight of us - Alan and the vicar were the only two men. A lady friend gave me away. We went to an aunt of mine in Dagenham, then he had to go back. When he put in the notification of the marriage to the Army, the Warrant Officer said "Your'e going to get some extra money - but your wife will get most of it!"
