Empire Day 1940 Certificate

I was 8 years old and I wa evacuated (I had 12 brothers and sisters, 5 of us were evacuated) from Birmingham to Wessendon Farm, Woolhope, Herefordshire.

I sang and danced to get picked!

The food was good on the farm. My dad passed away during the war. My mom lived in Springfield Street, Ladywood on her own. She took care of all of us. We didn't have much but were happy.

This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Anastasia Travers a volunteer with WM CSV Actiondesk on behalf of Rose Thompson and has been added to the site with his permission. Rose Thompson fully understands the sites terms and conditions.
